Newton Abbot Spartans made sure of winning Devon Merit One with three away wins in the space of eight action packed days. They followed up their 34-14 win at Teignmouth with a Tuesday evening visit to Paignton before ending the season at second placed Barnstaple.
The Spartans did more than enough with a 66 nil win at Paignton to have won the title without having to go to Barnstaple but nevertheless completed their programme with 17 wins from 20 starts thanks to a 15-5 win in north Devon.
At Queens Park centre Callum Gill
led the way with four tires as the Spartans built up a 45 nil half-time advantage before adding three seven pointers after the break. Apart from Gill’s contribution there were two tries apiece for Max Snowdon
and Jake Monnington plus one each for Charlie Dore and Kye Munslow. Fly-half Jack Sweeney took care of the kicking duties with eight conversions from the twelve on offer.
Victory over Barnstaple was down to tries from Snowdon and Will Luscombe with the rest of the points coming from the boot of fly-half Alex Pugh
The Spartans finished their campaign with seven successive wins to end up eleven points ahead of Barnstaple and twenty points clear of third placed Cullompton.
